Gatti Ancestors--Reggio Calabria

Postby sigatti » 16 May 2011, 20:46

I've successfully traced my husband's family (Gatti) back to the late 1700s, thanks to on-line records for Falerna, Catanzaro, Calabria. However, I have been unable to determine the fate of his great-grandparents, Antonio Gatti and Francescantonio Gambaro. The last record I was able to locate for this couple--who had lived most of their lives near Castiglione--was the marriage act of a daughter in 1895. In this record, they were listed as residents of Reggio Calabria. This surprised me. For some reason, they moved from their long-time home to another district. I know that the LDS has microfilms of records. But I'm wondering if there is anything on line that might enable me to expedite my search. Perhaps other Gatti researchers have the information I seek. I am also aware of the earthquake of winter 1908 and the possible destruction of records. I am hoping that someone can give me some direction for locating information about what happened to this couple. I'd very much like to have death information.

Many thanks in advance,

Sue
