Solimando and Sabetino - from San Marco In Lamis

Postby plateguy1 » 28 May 2011, 01:49

I am looking for any one with the last name of Solimando or Sabetino who live, or have family who live, in San Marco in Lamis,Foggia,Puglia,Italy. I am looking for family information on my Grandfather Guiseppe Solimando and Grandmother Givana Sabetino who immigrated to the USA around 1904. I am especially interested in finding Givana's parents information.
I would be most grateful if anyone can help me find my family and my Italian roots.
Thank you
Tim H.

Hello and welcome! :)

You state that your grandparents immigrated to US in 1904... did they come together? Were they married in Italy?

Civil records (births, marriages, deaths) are held at the comune (town) level, so it is important to know the exact place of birth... Are you quite certain that both were from San Marco in Lamis?

There are currently 16 listings for the name "Sabatino" [none for Sabetino] in the Italian Phone Book in San Marco in Lamis.

There are 10 listings for "Solimando"

You may want to write to one or more and inquire about your ancestral family...

Hi suanj! Great finds :-D

The 1905 manifest I located had him going to cousin "Angelo Gabriele" - Do you think this is actually his brother? --Angelo Gabriele Solimando?

I also found the manifest for Maria Giovanna Sabatino...so glad that you posted it!!!
Good info...leaving MOTHER Filomena, going to brother Donato! :-)

Hi Tessa, Maria Giovanna Sabatino, already married in 1921, was discharged in hospital at arrival; her final destination was the husband Giuseppe Solimando, but I believe that the brother Donato Sabatino was the next of kind for the hospital discharge.... abt the 1905 ship's manifest, I believe that is not the right Giuseppe Solimando, because in the ship's manifest of Sep 27, 1906 Gabriele and Giuseppe Solimando never in USA before...
just my suggestion,
hugs,
suanj

Tessa & Suanj . . . thank you so much for the information. Suanj . . . yes, my grandfather Guiseppe is indeed the one you indicated in Montana. I thought Guiseppe had arrived in 1905, but as you indicated, he had never been in the USA before. I didn't find Mary Giovanna's manifest until you found it, so it was AMAZING to find out her mothers name and her correct last name. Were you able to find her father's name, or her mother's maiden name? I thought I might be at a dead end, so your research has been invaluable to me. I earnestly appreciate your assistance and if you find out ANY other information I would be most grateful.
Thank you again.
