Not all comuni respond to email. If you write, be sure to include a self addressed (but not stamped) envelope. The final line of your address should read "STATI UNITI D'AMERICA - USA". It is a good idea to include a copy of some form of ID (driver's license, passport) as some comuni will not process a request without it; on the other hand, most people are understandably reluctant to do so. Use your own judgement.

I just found this website. My grandfather was also born in Dipignano and I am beginning my research as well.
