Help with an address in Cosenza?

Postby vanscan » 30 May 2011, 05:37

My great grandparents are from Calabria, Provinca di Cosenza, Comune di Dipignano (Frazione di Laurignano).

I would like to obtain their birth and marriage certificates. Can someone please help me with the address as I am not sure who I have to write to.

Thanks.

Here you go:

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Dipignano
Via XXIV Maggio
87045 Dipignano CS
ITALY

email: delegazionelaurignano@comune.dipignano.cs.it
web: http://www.comune.dipignano.cs.it/index ... =index&p=1

Not all comuni respond to email. If you write, be sure to include a self addressed (but not stamped) envelope. The final line of your address should read "STATI UNITI D'AMERICA - USA". It is a good idea to include a copy of some form of ID (driver's license, passport) as some comuni will not process a request without it; on the other hand, most people are understandably reluctant to do so. Use your own judgement.

Birth/marriage/death photocopies of original registry pages are called: Copia integrale dell'atto di Nascita/Matrimonio/Morte. These are more difficult to read but contain lots of additional useful information compared to...

Birth/marriage/death computer-generated extracts are: Estratto Per Riassunto Per Atto Di Nascita/Matrimonio/Morte

To "piggyback" on Carmine's information above...

Be sure to make your request in Italian...

Thank you Carmine and Tessa.

I will send the letter, and follow up by email if their response takes more than 3 months. I will also send a black & white photocopy of my drivers licence and smudge out my date of birth.

By the way, I am in Canada so I assume the word “Canada” at the bottom of my address line is sufficient?

I’ll see what happens and report back once I hear from them.

Thanks again for your help.

Vanscan.

Hi

I just found this website. My grandfather was also born in Dipignano and I am beginning my research as well. Luckily, I have become friends with a waiter at a local restaurant who was raised in a town close to Dipignano. He gave me the name and email address for the current mayor of Dipignano and his secretary. Here's the information:

Mayor: Dr. Guglielmo Guzzo
sindaco@comune.dipignano.cs.it

Secretary: Dr. Zangari Silvano
segreteria@comune.dipignano.cs.it

Comune (City Hall):
87045 Dipignano (CS)
Via Croce
Tel: +39-0984-445-694

Website: http://www.comune.dipignano.cs.it

Good Luck. If you get results, please let me know.
