search infos about rafael hofmann, disappeared in 1923

Post by alexandra »

hello,
i'm searching for informations about RAFAEL HOFMANN
and his two sons whose first names i don't know. RAFAEL is the
son of RAFAEL von HOFMANN, my grandfathers' grandfather.
both RAFAELS were officers of the austro-hungarian/k.u.k.-marine.
. while the father died in 1909 at the age of 67 the son served in
WW I like one brother ALFRED. after WW I the members of army
and marine could decide which citizenship they take. RAFAEL
became italian citizen, worked first as a captain on a "civil" ship
and then in a silk factory in milano. there he disappeared in 1923.
RAFAEL was married to MILLI GRUND from zara/zadar, former
capital of the kingdom of dalmatia, now croatia. zara and pola/pula
were typical stations in the career of k.u.k.-marine members.

i've two questions were i need help:
1) do RAFAELS sons still live, have they children?
2) what happened to RAFAEL, could he have been a victim of
mussolini's fascists like so many other people disappearing at that time

perhaps there are people with special interest in german
bohemian descent which could also help me as this part of the
family goes back to kovarska/schmiedeberg in the ore mountains/
krusnohori/erzgebirge. the name HOFMANN traces back via
RAFAEL 1886-1923? - RAFAEL 1844-1909 - EDUARD 1802-1875 -
FRANZ and MARIANNE HOFMANN + 1805 as victims of war typhus.
the eldest son of EDUARD who was first pharmacist and then
doctor, EDUARD von HOFMANN, became a famous doctor in
vienna. places associated with the first EDUARD are kovarska,
jachymov/joachimsthal, karlovy vary/karlsbad, jablonec/gablonz
and finally prague, where he lived and worked at the karlov/
karlshof. the other surviving sons EMANUEL and THEODOR also
went to the army and had no children. one of EDUARDs daughters
ANGELINA had children of which WILHELM GRUBER - also an army member -
had two children. the famous EDUARD had two sons in vienna
who became doctors. the first RAFAEL had two sons besides the
disappeared RAFAEL, ALFRED who had a son KURT and ROBERT
with the children EMMA, ALFRED and WILLI who had many children
- among them my mother as one of ALFREDs daughters.

if these story or parts of it sound family to people researching
their family history - perhaps we are related? :-)

Did you try posting the surname and the words such as WW1 Austria and see if there are any references. Try different titles. Have you checked the www.familysearch.org website for the surname? Peter
