Still searching for some info on grandparents

Postby lorene » 07 Jul 2011, 20:51

I am seeking info so that I can have as much as possible to assemble my file for applying for Italian citizenship.
1) I cannot determine WHEN my maternal grandmother, Concetta Fredrico Bunetta, born June 3,(6th registered)1891 in Butera, Sicily., came over to the US. Apparently she is not on the same manifest (Manuel Calvo/ Naples 1910) as my grandfather Cono Valentino Bunetta. I want to check to see if she was registered as alien. (WAs it before 1923 my mothers' birth here in US?)
2) I cannot find out ANYTHING out on my paternal grandmother Theresa Carraciolla ( not sure of spelling still!) Bariso.
except that she came over on the same ship as her husband and they are listed on the 1930 Census.
I need to find out as Tessa as suggessted what province of Naples they were born in. Don't know this at all, nor their parents names.

THANKS AGAIN FOR ANY HELP!
LORENE

Yes, she is the person I am looking for, thanks.
It looks like Brunetta but is Bunetta. I know they were married and do not know why she used her maiden name and I checked Ellis Island under both names and had no luck!

Any luck on the Theresa Carrociollo or Caracciolo? Born maybe around 1879 in or around Naples. Married Antonio Bariso?

Thanks!
Yes, the spelling is a problem , has always been a problem, and appears to remain a problem.I am hoping that this will not interfere with securing documents and proving relations for citizenship. There are different children listed at different times because they had , I believe 17 live births, but deaths before maturity, etc.
Yet, I still cannot locate anything on Theresa Caracciolo ( Bariso,Barosso) if that is the correct spelling. Still seeking info on her.
Barras listed in the 1900 census is not the family. It is a different family. I know most of my dather's brother's and sister's names and the 1920 and 1930 census is the match.

no, my opinion is that the 1900 census is right, because Annie Barroso( 1910 census) daughter is the same on 1900 census, and Therese Barroso ( 1910 census) is Grace on 1900 census.. I have no doubts..
the surnames could be Barese/Barrese/Barrasso and Caracciolo; maybe Barrasso as a well Caracciolo are the most probable... if so the birthplace could be Grottaminarda( Avellino province) but it is only a my idea...

I am printing these and looking very carefully. I have never known his mother to be called by any other name than THERESA. The problem with the 1900 census is that the name BARRAS and TEREREA just do not seem to fit and they were never known to have lived in Manhattan. A ship manifest, the BUFFORI, states they immigrated from Rio in 1899 and I believe they did arrive in NY. I am more confused now than ever and have not located any other family members that have info. I am looking for them to ask.I do not know how I will be able to get birth certificates for them in order to use the paternal side for jure sanguinis ctizenship. I will most likely use the maternal side where the names/decent is clear.
The 1930 is the census list names and ages I am familar with plus that is the only one my dad is listed on, but ofcourse that makes sense because he was born in 1921.

CARACCIOLO is Thersa's maiden name ( surname). Any help on her background?

Thanks AGAIN

in 1900 census the names are mispelled, but you can be sure that TEREREA is Theresa ( Teresa in italian), here the image:

in 1910 census, neighbor is Angelo Barroso maybe a brother of Antonio; this Angelo immigrated in 1897:

born in Sala Consilina ( Salerno, IT); you can understand that the surname changed many times in the US records, but, now I believe that the original spell was not Bariso or Baresi or Barrasso, because nobody of this surnames starting by "B" exist in Sala Consilina; instead exist Barrese as a well Caracciolo

and maybe, a probable arrival :
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957

I do not have any idea anymore. I had no idea his that my fathers' grandfather, G. Baresse lived in the US, before his father, immigrated to the US, so that in itself is new to me.
I do not beleive it is Angelo Barrrese because I know that my fathers' mother was not named Carmela unless that is also a name change or a nickname for Thersa. Her mass (in death) card reads Theresa Bariso.
Do you have any suggestions for me at this point?
Thanks,

maybe I no explained very well; in 1910 census:

-Angelo Barosso ( wife: Carmela) was theneighbor of:
Anthony Barosso ( wife: Theresa)
and I believe that they was brothers

both changed the surname in Bariso;
if, really they was brothers, as I think, the birthplace for Angelo Barosso/Bariso etc(right spell: Barrese) is Sala Consilina...

-abt the ship's manifest:
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
about Antonio Barrese
Name: Antonio Barrese
Arrival Date: 17 Aug 1899
Birth Year: abt 1871
Age: 28

Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Buffon
wife Teresa, daughters Maria and Doore
I know not if is right or not.

You are so patient with me. This info I believe to be correct.
So now, I look for birth certificates for him, Antonio Barrese, from Sala Consolina.
DO you know how I can do that?
Thanks

Re: Still searching for some info on grandparents

the main way is to try in:
"Registri dello stato civile di Sala Consilina (Salerno), 1866-1910 Sala Consilina (Salerno). Ufficio dello stato civile "
Births, marriages banns, marriages, deaths, ten year indexes.
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... ala+Cons++

if really Angelo and Antonio(Anthony) was brothers, you can find the Antonio birth in the microfilms, searching in the ten year index 1866-1875:
Indice decennale (nati) 1866-1875 Nati 1866-1893
FHL INTL Film
2016157
and if you will find your Antonio in the birth index you can find the birth act in same microfilm searching in "Nati 1866-1893"; as a well for Angelo, if they was brothers the parent's names are the equals..

if Teresa Caracciolo was born also in this town, you can find also her birthact; it's worth a try...
until now, after so much to try, that is what we have: a suggestion by 1910 census.. they was neighbors; maybe no a coincidence.. it is very possible that they was brothers...
if they was brothers, the birthplace is the same...
