Di Donato family

Postby JoeC » 04 Aug 2011, 16:53

Hi -

I'm trying to find out some information about the parents of Giovanni Di Donato and Domenica Botta. I have found immigration records for Giovanni and Domenica from Ellis Island, which shows they arrived on April 22, 1914. In the Ellis Island information, Domenica is incorrectly shown as Domenico Batto, and Giovanni as Giovanni De Donato. They arrived with their three children, Cosimo (Cosmo is the name the family knows), Rosa and Teresa. On the manifest, it shows Giovanni's father, Michele, as the closest relative, living in Eboli, from where they came. It also shows they were going to join a cousin, Guiseppe Tierri (or maybe Fierri?) in Newark. Giovanni and Domenica had several other children who were born in Newark, NJ - Maria, Michael, Filomena, Carmela, Giovannina and Rosemarie.

I'm primarily interested in information about Giovanni and Domenica, such as their marriage date/place, their parents, as well as the cousin Guiseppe Tierri they were going to join in Newark, but I would also be happy to receive any information about the family.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks -
Joe

Took a look at the manifest you referenced for Giovanni and Domenica...

The cousin's surname looks like "PIERRI" - check the formation of the letter "p" further down the manifest page for Pittsburgh and DiPalma

It appears from the manifest that Giovanni was born approx. 1880...correct?

You can write to the comune of Eboli if you are sure that is the place of birth...

The address is in the link Marty provided above...
