Lorusso Family, Altamura, Italy

Postby rp76226 » 25 Aug 2011, 04:37

Trying to find the birth dates and World War I military records of three Lorusso brothers - Domenico, Vito, and Evangelista (born Sept 18, 1900 and died August 3, 1986) from Altamura, Bari, Italy. Their parents were Michele Lorusso born August 13, 1858 and Teresa Ninivaggi, born December 1, 1858. Domenico and Vito were wounded in WWI. One was shot in the arm; the other in the face. Evangelista emigrated to America arriving on April 15, 1921 at Ellis Island. He married Maria Antonia Fariello on February 3, 1924. They had five daughters. I am very familiar with his history and descendants. I'm trying to find out more on his brothers. Did they marry and have families? I don't believe they came to America. I've written to the town of Altamura more than once and have not had the courtesy of a reply. I'd like to avoid the Mormom site film copies because their Italian documents are normally in horrible shape in terms of photo clarity, and near impossible to read and therefore decipher.

Hi,
Altamura is a big town and surname Lorusso is a quite popular one not to talk of first names like Domenico and Vito. If you don't have exact birth dates it's going to be a very difficult job and this might be the reason you didn't get any answer from the City Hall.
Taking into consideration that both parents were born in 1858 I would assume that they got married between 1878 and 1885. If Domenico and Vito were in WW1 it means they were born before 1898 (this is the maximum enlistment year for WW1). So, you can request the City Hall to look in the range of 20 years, between 1878 and 1898. It's just a shot in the dark but it might work. This doesn't mean that the City Hall will answer in a short delay. Otherwise the only choice is the Mormon films. I don't see it so difficult, many people here post images and get help in deciphering and translatations. I had a look at the White Pages for Lorusso in Altamura, there are 370 people...... you can see it yourself

I see someone on ancestry says they have the birth record of Teresa Ninivaggi there mother. Thats half the battle in looking through italian record you have the mothers maiden so looking at films should be easier at Family History Library
Here is some info for you for reading records
