Michael A Santomenna family from Erie, PA

Postby willbe » 29 Aug 2011, 23:57

I am trying to find out more about my Great Grandfather born in Italy. All I know is he was born in 1891 in Italy, moved to the States, resided in Erie, PA, and died June 3, 1960. Can anyone direct me in my search for his Italian roots? His naturalization? His marriage to Mary C. Agresti?

Thank you...

POSSIBLE 1910 Census for Michael (Michele) Santomenna

Looks like he is living in NY with his brother, Domenick, a tailor

Looks like Michele (Michael) was living in Niagara Falls in 1917-18
He is a pharmacist, and still single.
Date of birth is listed as 5 May 1891.
This all agrees with the 1930 Census where it looks like he and Mary had been married for 8 years (marriage in 1922?)

He lists his place of birth as San Fele. :D

San Fele listed again on the WWII Registration Card
Michael is now part owner of the drug store.

If you think the above records identify your GGF, then you can write directly to the comune (town) of San Fele and request his birth record. This will identify his parents.

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Mazzini, 7
85020 San Fele (PZ)
ITALY

You should make your request in Italian.
Help with letters...

http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... talrecords

If your GGF had a Social Security number, you can request a copy of his Social Security Application (SS-5) which will also give the names of his parents, and his place of birth.
If you don't know the SS#, you can usually find it on a death certificate, or you can have the SSA do a search.

You can request online...
