Agostino Mancino-Mancini

Postby Janet Mancini » 31 Aug 2011, 20:10

My Grandfather, Agostino Mancino, lived in Nocera Terinese. He came to the US 02-01-1905 through Ellis Island. 34 years of age. He also lived in Calabria. What I am interestd in are church records. His wife was Assunta (susan) Martigola-Mancini. She came over to US 05-09-1906. She lived in Morolo, Italy. They both came on the ship - Italia.

Could anyone tell me where I may find parish records. I am looking for birth records , baptism or any kind of records. Agostino's date of birth - 1876 - date of death - 06-24-1925, Monongahela, PA. Assunta - date of birth - 08-15-1885 date of death - 06-24-1924. They settled in Monongahela, PA.

Thank you for your help,

Janet L. Mancini

Welcome to the forum! :-)

You mention that Agostino was 34 when he arrived in 1905... which would put his date of birth about 1871.
Yet you post a birth date of 1876 - where did you find this date?

What records do you already have regarding Agostino? census, manifest, WW registrations?
Marriage record in Pennsylvania?

To request civil records and baptism records, you will need to establish Agostino's EXACT place of birth...

Some information on parish records

And requesting civil registrations (birth, etc.)

Is the Family Tree on Ancestry owned by "Janetlee2010" yours?

This tree lilsts Agostino's immigration year as 1895 at age 20.
Living in Monongahela, PA

The date on the Petition for Naturalization on that Family Tree for Agostino Mancino is 22 October 1900. So it makes sense that Agostino first arrived before 1905.

Early manifests hold very little information, but I found this one interesting and thought I would post it for you... :-D

Arrival in NY, 19 May 1893 on the SS Alesia of Agostini Mancini
Age at arrival listed as 21, which would put DOB about 1872 (in the ballpark :-) )
Last residence "Cicala" which in Calabria Region and about 30 km away from Nocera Terinese "as the crow flies"
Though his destination seems to be NY, there are many passengers from Cicala, and their destination is Pittsburgh.
