Brailli / Priuli family from Venice

Postby martin1871 » 22 Sep 2011, 10:13

I would be very grateful for help in tracking down family connections to Venice.

The information I have is as follows:

My great grat great grandfather was Paul (Paolo ?) Priuli and was born in Venice in 1785. He left Venice around 1797 -1800 and went to Corfu and then to Orebic in Dalmatia in 1826 where he settled, married and had a family. He died in 1870. At some point (probably in Orebic) the name was changed to Brailli.

The details above come from handwritten notes made by my great aunt who visited Orebic in 1926 and met Joseph, son of Paul, so hopefully they are accurate.

I know that there were several Doges called Priuli and in a previous discussion with a Venetian historian it was suggested that the Priuli line was quite small and anyone with that surname was likely to be related. whether this is the case I am not sure. I have been to the Casa Priuli and seen several portraits of Priuli's who bear a stirking resemblance to modern members of my family although perhaps this is wishful thinking !

Any help / suggestions / comments would be most gratefully received.

Welcome Martin to the website
Are you talking about Orebic Dalmatia in Croatia where he moved to?

Hi Marty
Thanks for the welcome .!
Orebic in Croatia is the place I was referring to. I was lucky enough to go there this summer and saw the former daily home.

Marty

Thanks for those, will follow them up. I believe my gggrandfather would have married in Orebic and died there so hopefully may find records.
I would love to find details of him in Venice and his parentage but one step at a time !!
