Hi. I just wanted to chime in that I am currently researching Mastronardis (among others) in Basilicata. My husband's 2nd ggrandmother was Maria Gaetana Mastronardi, born 1832, probably in Ferrandina or Stigliano. There are also a number of Mastronardis in Pisticci. She married Domenico Cafarelli, and their first son Vincenzo, born in Ferrandina, was my husband's ggrandfather. In 1876, both Maria Gaetana and Vincenzo were living in Stigliano. Vincenzo married a Sarubbi in Accettura and brought his wife and children to the U.S. in 1893, settling first in Manhattan and then in West New York, NJ.

I am currently trying to find Domenico and Maria Gaetana's marriage record (before 1854) and Maria's birth record, but have been keeping track of any records with family surnames. If you discover a family link to these towns, please keep me in mind. Thanks, and good luck with your research.

Thanks for sharing your Mastronardi pics, geliza. I've come a long way in my research since that last post in September 2011. After a long search, I finally found Maria Gaetana Mastronardi's birth record in Craco in 1830. Her parents were Vincenzo Mastronardi, son of Andrea Mastronardi and Caterina Spera from Craco, and Angela Rosa Brescia from Ferrandina. I've been piecing together the tree of the Craco Mastronardi family and found that family members first moved to Craco somewhere between the late 1700s and the turn of the century. I don't know yet where they came from, but I suspect a connection with the Mastronardis in Stigliano. If you find a connection for your family in those towns, let us know.

Thanks for posting the photos, geliza. I especially like the first one. Have you found any connection with Mastronardis in Stigliano or Craco, Matera province, Basilicata?

adelfio: Thanks so much that you are able to search these records (and you read Italian?) Now I'm really confused. Who is Maria in the above picture (said to be Pietro's wife?) And I was just told Giuseppe born 1/9/1890 was an orphan raised by the Mastronardi family and who married a Mastronardi daughter (Domenica).... Maria second wife or an something else?
