Giovanna Pica m. Salvatore Russo in or near Terrasini probably in the 1840s. I suspect they were born circa 1818-1820. Their dtr, Margherita Russo m. Francesco Paolo Favazza 7 Jan 1873 in Terrasini, my grandparents. Another dtr, Angela Russo m. Giuseppe Favazza 19 Jan 1875 in Terrasini, my g-g-g-uncle & aunt. Angela may have emigrated to St Louis, unverified.
Does anyone know anything about the Pica, or the Russo, heritage of Giovanna & Salvatore? How about other descendants?
1 Salvatore RUSSO (abt 1818 Terrasini – dec.)
+ Giovanna PICA (abt 1820 Sicily – dec.)
2 Margherita RUSSO (abt 1853 Favarotta, Sicily – aft 1920 Sicily)
+ Francesco Paolo FAVAZZA (6 Oct 1846 Terrasini, Palermo, Sicily – bet 1914 and 1920 Terrasini, Sicily)
2 Angela RUSSO ( – ?? 2 Feb 1920 St. Louis, MO ??)
+ Giuseppe FAVAZZA ( – dec.)
+ Giuseppe DI MERCURIO ( – dec.)
Many thanks~

Do you have Italian civil records for your family? Does it show the church on them from Terrasini,Palermo because there are records online at familyhistory.org for Palermo Catholic churches also films from the Family History Library. Early Italian birth records usually shows Church info on them on the first page right side of the birth act when and where the individual's Baptism.

Re: Pica Family, Terrasini 19th century
Thanks - I have searched quite a bit. But actually, that brings up a good point. The marriage record of my great grandparents actually swapped the first names of the fathers, i.e. the priest messed up. Both a family tree created by my dad and his father about 60 years ago, and the papanomy naming conventions support me.

RESEARCHER NOTE: Although the marriage record in the Terrasini parish register for bride, Margherita, to Francesco Favazza on Jan 7, 1873 lists FOB as Giuseppe, the eldest son of that marriage was named Giuseppe. The second son was Salvatore, the third Peter and the youngest Paolo. Therefore, the papanomy tradition indicates that the church record is in error. The same marriage record lists the groom's father’s name as Francesco, which we also know to be incorrect and for which have other primary source documentation, in addition to papanomy conventions.
Nothing like making a complicated chore more complicated

Re: Pica Family, Terrasini 19th century
I am Franco Anthony Pica - Son Dominic and Patrice Pica - my Grandparents were from Palermo Sicily and immigrated here back in the 1930's I believe. Their names were Franco and Giovanna Pica. We have lived in St. Louis, MO all our lives. I'm not sure if that helps

Re: Pica Family, Terrasini 19th century
Hi Frank - Was it really Palermo, or was it Terrasini or Cinisi? I know I grew up saying my grandparents were from Palermo & Milan, simply because those were the nearest big cities people know. There were Pica from Terrasini in St. Louis... but there could easily be Pica from Palermo and other cities, too.
