Giuseppe Iacchei

Post by Amansolillo »

Hello. My great-great-grandfather was Francesco Sormanti, who immigrated from Ceprano or Buccino to Rhode Island in 1904. On his ship's manifest, it mentioned that he was going to stay at the home of his cousin Giuseppe Iacchei, who immigrated in 1902. I don't know anything about Francesco's parents other than that his father was Luigi. I would appreciate any help on identifying Francesco and Giuseppe's parents and any help to figure out how the two are related. Thanks

This is facinating. We are related. My name is Jeffery Iacchei. My father Roland Peter Iacchei was the son of August Iacchei and was raised in Rhode Island until he was 5 and then the family moved to Hollywood, California.

I would be interested in talking with you to see what you may have fond about our family ancestry.

Best regards,

Jeff Iacchei

The ship's manifest lists my great-great-grandfather Francesco as being your great-grandfather Giuseppe's cousin. That could mean one of the following possibilities: Francesco Sormanti's mother could've been an Iacchei. Giuseppe Iacchei's mother could've been a Sormanti. Francesco and Giuseppe's mothers could've been siblings. Unfortunately, at this point in time, I am unable to tell which of the possibilities could be true. However, it is certain that the two of us are related.

If you have an Ancestry.com account, my tree is called Mansolillo/Sormanti Family Tree.

I just found that Giuseppe died in 1958 in Rhode Island. I can't find his death certificate online. His wife Antonia died in 1930 in Rhode Island

The 1920 Rhode Island census states that Giuseppe arrived in America in 1902, which would make sense since my great-great-grandfather Francesco arrived in 1907. However, an Ellis Island record lists Giuseppe and his son Augustino having arrived in 1911. I can't make out the text well. Iacchei is misspelled as Tacchei

It has been said that the last name Sormanti was originally di Sormanno, which is a family that roots back to 1200. The di Sormanno family was established in the early years of the 16th century.
