Ever heard of the name "Gaiozza"?

Postby joeltarp » 28 Dec 2011, 18:20

My wife had received a copy of her grandfather's death certificate. The grandfather's parent's names are listed on the document. The two names are Francesco Passalacqua and his wife's name was Geraldine Gaiozza.
The Gaiozza name doesn't seem to come up ANYWHERE! Their son Sal, was born Feb 1918. So they are probably born in the 1880's or 90's. Also, the death certificate says, Sal was born in New York, so his parents must have lived in New York.
I tried many different sites but I am sure if there is anywhere I might get some help. It has to be here!
HELP?

I believe that the correct spelling is CAIAZZA :-)

While there are a few spelled with the "o" in northern Italy, the more common spelling is with three "a" :-) Concentration is the Campania region, but found throughout Italy today.

Here is the image for the 1920 Census that suanj posted for you above!

It should be noted that at the same address (134 Houston St., NY), a few lines down on the census, there is another Pasalaqua family... Head of House is PETE, wife Rosa, and children Mariana and SAM...
With Italian naming traditions there is a good possibility that Pete(Pietro) and Frank(Francesco) are brothers or cousins.
