Postby sugarbug » 28 Dec 2011, 19:18

Hello: I'am just starting my search for information on the following family:

Salvatore Fazio b. 1869 I believe in Augusta - d. 1952 Augusta (no month or day)

Salvatore's parents:

Benadict Fazio - 1839 - no death info
Michelina(Magnosa)Fazio - 1839 - no death info

Also I'am not sure if Benadict & Michelina were born in Augusta??

Salvatore was married to - Martha Gianino - Martha b. 1867 Italy - no death info.

Children of Salvatore & Martha

Angelo b. 1897 Augusta - d. 1979 USA
Michelina b. 1900 Augusta?? - d. 1975
Joseph b. 1903 Augusta?? - d. 1992 USA
Lucietta b. 1907 Augusta?? - d. 1982

Any information on the above family would be greatly appreciated. First time ever doing research in Italy so any help or direction would be wonderful.

Thanks to all & have a great day!!

First you need to find their entry record or naturalization record. This will confirm the town of origin. Without this you are looking for a needle in a haystack.

Good Morning Ann:

Thank you so much for your quick reply.

I know for sure that Angelo Fazio b. Feb.1897 was indeed in Augusta and almost 99.9% sure his father Salvatore also born in Augusta.

So felt that was a good place to try and start searching for their roots and information.

I have never researched at all in Italy so this is a new learning experience for me.
I have a good feeling regarding this website - it's I think like hitting the jackpot with all the different subject lines - fingers crossed!!

Have a wonderful day & thanks - Sandi from USA

Joseph b. 1903 Augusta?? - d. 1992 USA

Giuseppe Fazio was born in Augusta on 16th jun 1903 from Salvatore Fazio ( 34 old) and Mattea Gianino (36 old)
in the birth act Salvatore and Mattea are domiciled in Augusta; maybe no born...

no birth record abt Michelina in 1900 Augusta births; ditto for Lucietta in the births from 1906 to 1909..

I believe Salvatore Fazio's mother's maiden name was Mignosa not Magnosa based on a surname search in the Italian white pages, and on the following manifest.

1913 manifest for Salvatore and son Angelo, lines 14 and 15; note others from Augusta on same page--Gianino and Mignosa.

Page 2
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0014

Located other manifests for a Salvatore Fazio, born about 1869 from Augusta, headed to Boston Mass. These indicate his occupation as a "mariner." He might have been a "bird of passage" who made multiple trips to the states.

Hello suanj:

Thank you so "very" much for the wonderful birth record you sent and your time looking for the info on Salvatore's family.

Salvatore was my son-in-law's great grandfather - Salvatore's son Angelo was his grandfather.
He has little to no information on his families ancestry in Italy - so our search starts.

You were so kind to forward Joseph's birth record - please don't think me rude or pushy but would there be anything you may have seen for Angelo?

Thanking you in advance.

Sandi :D

Hi Biff: Thanks to you also for such great information - seeing the ship's list with Salvatore & Angelo makes them to me more then just names and dates. :?

I hope not to become to much of a bother posting with question's etc - but the mission is just begining - don't we love "genealogy missions".

Thanks so much & have a great night - Sandi

Hi Biff:

Thanks once again - this is so interesting - my son-in-law is just going to be overwhelmed as he had no information on his family in Augusta.

Now I'am really going to be pushing my luck with you "sorry" but I have another question if you wouldn't mind.

I believe Salvatore's parent's - Benadict Fazio b. 1839 - no death date & Michelina Mignosa b. 1839 - would you have any info on them?
That would be his great great grandparents.

Bloody pest I'am huh!! Thank You!!

Thanks Biff, by your input, I found Lucia death:
Name: Lucy Chines
Birth: 20 Aug 1907
Death: Nov 1982 - Medford, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States of America
Civil: Massachusetts

and by the birth date I found the birth act on "Atti di Nascita":

Lucia Maria FAZIO born in Augusta on the 20th Aug 1907; married in Augusta on 18th sep 1926 at Santo CHINES

Good Morning Biff & Suanj: Happy New Year's Eve to you & your families - may it be a Happy & Healthy one with lot's of smile's for all!!!

Thank you both for all your help and information - my son-in-law will be over the moon once I start putting things together for his surprise birthday gift. The search and mission is never complete but isn't that the fun of genealogy.

Did a google earth search yesterday and was able to look at the street in Augusta where the Fazio's lived - amazing. Couldn't zero in to close or clearly but looks beautiful with the ocean on both sides.

Once again thank you both for all your help - time - information and most of all your kindness in helping with this latest family project.

I'am sure I will not be a stranger to this forum as more questions come along.

Peace & Happiness for 2012. Sandi
