Found this Border Crossing Record for 1914. It is a Report of Rejections.

Seems James Philips (age 20) and Lucy Philips (age 55) were rejected as a result of laws passed regarding immigration to Canada. Codes cited were #23 (person not immigrating directly from the country of birth - in this case Lucy/Italy) and also code #924 which requires a minimum of $25 to immigrate.
This may be the reason Lucy stayed in Buffalo, NY :-(

Hi Tessa,
Thank you for your reply, I did not know Lucy Phillips tried to enter Canada in 1914 this is strange because she was taking care of her grand daughter after her mother died. Lucias daughter was Angela Tommasulo who died in april of 1914 and shetook in her granddaughter katherine and the other children where put in an orphanage in Buffalo,N.Y.
The two youngest were adopted right away and were taken back to Italy, this is what I was told, I do not understand why a relative here did not take the babies. I do have the 1920census, I was hoping to get something on the uncles that lived in Toronto,Canada, but what I get I am very happy for.Thank you so very much

I've been trying to find something on the uncles, but no success as yet, except for the border crossing card...

Is this your Angela Tommasulo?
You may already have this, but I post it for reference -
The 1910 Census for Angela Tommasulo (spelled Thomasula on the Census) in Buffalo, NY
She had 7 living children on this census. The three older daughters may have been too old in 1914 to go to an orphanage at the death of the mother.
According to the census, Margaret Spardutta was the mother-in-law of the head of household. It would appear then that she was Angela's mother, right? What became of her?

Do you have a death record for Angela?

Wild guess without seeing the document but Maria Rosa's surname could be D'Onofrio which is found in San Fele.

Here is the 1905 Census for "Tomasola" Family in Erie, Buffalo, NY

They are at address 124 Illinois St. -
Father - John, wife - Angelina, children - Pasquale (5), Tony (2), Katherine (7 mos.)
You will see that below them on the census, living at 122 Illinois St., is Pasquale FILLIPPI, wife LUCY FILLIPPI, and son JAMES :-)

Here is the image for the 1900 Census that suanj posted above.

It is stated in the census that Angela had two children, but that none are living... :-(
Angela and husband, John, are living at 33 Burwell Place in Buffalo.

I have also posted an image of the same census...at 22 Burwell Place is living Pasquale FILIPPO, wife Maria (this is probably Lucy), and their son James(age 4). Maria states that she has had 3 children, and 3 are living. The third is probably the other uncle you are looking for.

Thank you Tessa and Suanjfor all you have done. but of course there is more/////
I was wondering if you could get me the declaration of intention for Giovanni Tommasulo. I noticed someone else got it and it had a lot of information on it.Is that possible?
He came in through New York on to Buffalo New York in 1888,in May. Is this the paper that tells about the wife and children?
