Milone from Falcone, Messina, Sicily

Postby billoms » 22 Jan 2012, 21:46

I am looking for information on my great grandfather Salvatore Milone. He was Falcone, Sicily. He came to America around 1903 or 1904. He had a sister Guzetta who came later. She married Giuseppe Barone. Does anyone have any information on this famliy?

Finding several "Salvatore Milone" from Messina arriving early 1900's :-)
Can you give an approx. date of birth?
Spouse's name?
Place where settled in US?

IF Salvatore was born about 1886, here is a POSSIBLE ship manifest for him...

Then I believe the manifest above is his since on the 1910 Census (residing on Bacon Street in LeRoy, NY) he states that he immigrated in 1904. Also has his age as 24 making his approx. DOB of 1886. Of course, we know that census records can be very inaccurate :-)

Is that your Cecere family tree with Salvatore Milone and Parmina Vinci on Ancestry?
Owner is listed as william cecere

Tessa,
I ran across something very unusual. I tried to find a clearer version of the ship manifest. When I went to ancestry.com I found the ss germania, arriving same date but totally different manifest of names. What do you make of this?

It looks like his destination was Ohio. Maybe Galion? - Would this destination make sense?
Maybe this is NOT your ancestor?

Joining uncle Sebastiano D'Amico.

THere is a South Market street is in Galion Ohio
Galion boasted two large railroad depots, the Big Four Depot on Washington Street, and the Erie Depot (now demolished) on South Market Street. With the move of the Erie yards to Marion in the 1910s, the railroads declined, although the city remained a passenger rail center into the 1960s. The Big Four Depot was abandoned; however, it has since been acquired by the City of Galion and is undergoing a slow but thorough restoration.(copyright Wiki)
