Interested in Mother's Family

Postby DJLangille » 01 Feb 2012, 15:29

Here's the information my Mom passed on to me:

Her Mother and Father are from Nicastro, Province of Catanzaro, Italy. My grandfather, Giuseppe Provenzano, born 1885 and my grandmother, Giovanna "Jennie" Calinoha, born 1882.

Would love to know more !

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Just a few questions...
Did your mother's parents immigrate to US? If yes, when did they arrive and where did they settle?
Can you provide other details, names of other children, date of death, etc.

We usually begin with later records (census, ship manifests) and work backward to verify place of birth, etc.

Anything you can provide will be helpful.

Checking the LDS Family history center microfilms...they have civil registrations (births, marriages, deaths) for Nicastro from 1809 - 1866

No Ma'am, doesn't appear to be. My grandmother's name was Giovanna Calinoha and they were married in the states so she wouldn't have been his wife when she arrived. They both were from a place called Nicastro, Povidence of Catanzaro, Italy.

I believe they arrived in New York ~ 1900s. They married in the States the same time. My grandfather died ~ 1973 and my grandmother ~ 1973. There are four living children, names are; Rose Marie, Lucy, Catherine and Michael Provenzano. My Mom is Rose Marie. She died 2005.
