Basically, my mother's side are DiMaggio's, but they come from Santa Cristina Gela, which isn't exactly Isola Delle Femmine.
However, Santa Cristina Gela didn't exactly exist before 1800, so they definitely aren't from that place in the long run. Combine that with the fact that they are rather close cities and there are some genetic features that are similar and it does seem possible.
Now, I know how to research things myself, for my family, but I also know they'd get a kick out of knowing they were related to him.
So, how do I go about connecting the dots, when I imagine their family is very private and they've probably been hounded about this for the last 50 years?
Since you appear to be serious in your research may I suggest you buy the book Italian Gemnealogical Records by Trafford R. Cole. it is an easy read and will afford you the opporunity to trace your family back when and, of course, other luminaries. You may also wish to stimulate your palate by going to www.google.com and insert the surname of choice and both towns together and then separately which ever works for you in the title. Peter
