puchiele family

Postby leb83 » 17 Dec 2004, 01:51

Shalom, Puchiele need help!!
For a friend of mine in Canada, I try to research his Family tree. He told me that his grandfather was Jewish and married to a Christian (Katholic) lady.
This took all place in Italy were his family was living for centuries.
The family name is PUCHIELE.
I can not find anywhere a connection to Jews. He told me that the spelling which he uses now might not be the right one. It is possible that ( and that is my interpretation since I am Jewish and speak Iwrith and Jiddish) that the name might be also Fuchiele.
Hope to hear from anyone who can help me
Thanks
Gracia

Shalom Michel,
If you go to this site linked below, you can do a search of the name Puchiele...
These are ship records... but it may give you an idea of where this name existed at one point. If you need help reading the manifests, please feel free to ask. You mentintioned that this took place in Italy for centuries... could you mention which place... maybe the Jewish connection could then be investigated further.

or you may try this link as well

These sites are truly wonderful for research.

Sin ce you are unsure about the spelling or the history of the Hebrew family names I did a cursory search back to medieval period and there is a YECHIEL Puchiel and Fuchiel are not that far off. If you wish to inquire further then e-mail Jukles@yucs.org and ask for his assistance. Peter

Dear Leb83 i hardlyh think that the immigration from Italy to the USA has anything to do with being jewish. I would be much surprised if the Puchiele that came to the USA considered themselves to be jewish. However, only research into the history of the family would disclose whether they were or were not Jewish, and if so, when they were last known as being jewish. That is why I suggested you contact the person I told you to e-mail for the historical roots of the family. Peter
