Looking for information on Lombardis in San Vito Lucca

Postby jreeavanos » 05 Mar 2012, 04:23

Hello,

I am looking for any available information on my Great-Grandfather and Great-Grandmother Lombardi. He was Domenico Lombardi, born November 27, 1868 and she was Ziuta Giambastiani, birth date and date of death unknown. Their son, my grandfather, Julio (known as Julius in the U.S.) was born June 14, 1895 in San Vito, outside of Lucca, though family tradition always just said they were from Lucca. I'm assuming it was just easier to name the largest nearby city.

I know Ziuta died in Italy and Domenico then married Ziara Giambastiani, whom I was always told was Ziuta's sister. Domenico emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900s and Ziara followed with Julio, Clemente and Michelina in 1905. I do not know if Clemente and Michelina were Ziuta's children or Ziara's. Ziara's name is often spelled "Zaira" too. Everyone initially traveled to San Francisco, California and settled across the bay in Alameda.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Grazie,
Cherie Lombardi

Hello Cherie, :D
Have you emailed to Lucca for the birth act for Julio?
You may learn of the approximate age of Ziuta.

If you can get the birth act for Domenico, there may be information about his marriage.
A good form letter generator can be found at

For reference purposes...
The ship manifest with Ziara Lombardi in 1905 lists the children as:
Julio - age 9
Clementina - age 4
MARCELLA - age 2

Going to husband/father Domenico (it is abbreviated Dco) Lombardi in SAN FRANCISCO.

I know you mentioned that the third child was Michelina. Just wanted to be sure you saw this... :-)

If they are from San Vito they are from Lucca for San Vito is frazione (suburb of Lucca )The municipal territory of Lucca includes eighty-one fraziones. Lucca is a city and comune in Tuscany, the north-west of Italy, situated on the river Serchio in the province of Lucca It is the capital city of the Province of Lucca( like a county in the USA) So if you want to research you can get the Family History Library films of Italy, Lucca, Lucca - Civil registration 1866-1935 for they will hold the frazione records.Births, marriage banns, marriages, deaths, ten year indexes
