Guzzo & Mazza in Calabria

Postby GuzzoSC » 06 Mar 2012, 18:15

We are looking for family connections to Francesco (Frank) Guzzo, b. Oct 1877 in Italy, married to Maria (Letitia) Mazza b.1885 in Italy. They were married in 1905, and lived in Caccuri, Calabria. They moved to the West Virgina USA coal mines by 1910, and had 3 boys around Fayette, WV. By 1920 they lived around Buffalo, New York (on Swan St & Myrtle Ave, and sometimes in Brant NY) and had 5 more boys.
We have many connections and documents for the USA but are looking for Italian ancestry. Francesco's parents are probably Saverio Guzzo and Elisabetta Rao in Italy, and one brother's name may be Rosario. Maria's parents are Vincenzo Mazza and Maria Piccolo, and her siblings were Joseph, Luigi, Josephine, Vincenza (Jenny), & possibly Victoria.
Related cousins in Buffalo, NY USA may be Umberto Guzzo and Vincenzo Demme.
Thank you for your assistance.
Gail

Hi Gail, I too am looking for ancestry info from Italy but on the Rao and Mazza family. There is very little information prior to my Rao arriving in NY. Our grandmother was Maria Giuseppa Rao born 4 Dec 1895. She was known as Josephine. Her mother is shown on the ships registry as Carmela Mazza. I think her father's name was John Rao. Her last permanent residence was listed as Country of Messina and City/Town of All Marina or possibly Ali Marina. That is all the info we have confirmed. We think Giuseppa Rao had the following brothers & sisters: Frank, Natalia, Josephine?, Joseph, Anthonia, Concetta, Isabella and Salvatore. Info we have is sketchy at best. I am wondering if we might be researching some of the same family members? Giuseppa Rao wed Antonino Nicotra born 7 Sept 1894 in Linguaglosse, Italy. The Rao's initially went to Brooklyn. Guiseppa & Antonino Nicotra settled in Florida. Regards Kathy

Kathy
Messina & Linguaglossa are both in Sicily I think, which is where most of the Rao research led me. My grands and great-grands are known to be from Calabria which is adjacent to Sicily. I am not aware of any direct relatives coming to New York City but would be glad to share what I have. Send me your email in a private message & I will give you access to our private family tree online.
