Looking for Philomena Tallone (maternal great-grandmother)

Postby darthsmozers » 12 Mar 2012, 03:34

One branch of my tree is very short: my mother's father's mother. Her birth name was Philomena (Filomena?) Tallone and, after marriage, was Philomena Tammaro. She was born in Italy and died in New Jersey sometime in the 1970s or early 1980s.

All i know about her was that she was born in the month of November, but i dont know the year, though her spouse was born in 1900, 1901, or 1902, if that is any indication. I am told she came from Naples, but i would guess its possible that might have been the story when it could have just meant she sailed from there. Her husband, Giuseppe Tammaro, who i dont know if she married in Italy or in USA, was Sicilian fro, Favignana, specifically. If the ellis island record i have is correct, he came to the usa around 18 years of age with his brother and father.

anyway, i know i gave barely any information. Just figured i would try a new approach. Maybe if i knew which church in jersey he got married in, if in jersey and not nyc, then i wonder if they would have info.

Thanks!

Note: i know there is a death record on ancestry.com for a philomena tammaro who died in Nj in 1989, but my philomena tammaro died before I was born, which was in 1983 (as far as i know). It must have come up as a hint on ancestry due to this woman also being born in nov.

I have emailed the names of Filomena's siblings to my grandfather (Filomena's son) to see if any of them ring a bell. If so, this would be amazing because this is the shortest branch in my tree with little or no information!

This must be her!! I called my grandfather who confirmed (via my grandmom with memory issues, go figure, haha) that he had an aunt bridget and aunt lucia and an uncle joe. Sunds like brigida, giuseppe, and lucia to me :-)

This branch was a struggle from the start and so i had abandoned it for awhile. This is really great and i thank you!

Looks like i also now know another generation or two back by way of filomena's parents. You are great, thank you! :D

Regarding the grandmother, "CHIACCHIO Maria Brigida" ... is Chiacchio her maiden name and Maria Brigida is her given name?

Hmm. I looked at the WW1 registration and it lists Alfonsio's wife as Josie, which matches a 1930 census where he is married to Josephine. However, they do not match the Ellis Island of the wife being Rosa, whose children matched what my grandfather told me. So i think WW1 is someone else.

Really?
Also, "Josephine"'s children do not match the names of Rosa's children.

On the ship's manifest the final destination of Filomena and family was Trenton NJ and joining at father A.... Tallone; no much readable the first name;

instead
CHIACCHIO Maria Brigida( married Tallone) joining at son Alfonso TALLONE in Trenton NJ

so I believed that the first name of Filomena father was Alfonso also, but really I cannot read very well on the ship's manifest if it is Alfonso also or some first name starting with A.... and at this point cannot be Alfonso... because Alfonso was in NJ with Josephine wife also in 1910 census...

surely Alfonso, Pasquale and A... ( Filomena father)Tallone was relatives... siblings or cousins... I know not the relationship I no searched abt that ...

surely the ship's manifest is right and it is abt right Filomena...

the problem is to read the Filomena father .. him spelling first name...

my first suggestion was that the first name was Alfonso, but now sure is not Alfonso...
and only finding the 1920 census we can have a idea of him first name...

CHIACCHIO Maria Brigida married Tallone in 1920 census lived with another son: Pasquale Tallone
