Are the comune records indexed?

Postby corrado » 13 Mar 2012, 17:48

I was wondering if the comune records are indexed, or when you ask for a search they have to go year by hear to find what I ask?

They have both ten-year and annual indexes (on books).

In my area not all Comune's have 10 year indexes prior to 1900 and some don't even have annual indexes for every year.

Even with the indexes you need to be careful. My great grandfather's name was not on the index but was in the register for the year he was born; so that required a page by page search. Fortunately he was born in a small Calabrian town so there weren't that many records to check.
