Calusio from San Giorgio Canavese

Postby CaseyJoe » 01 Apr 2012, 07:44

I am looking to learn more about my family from this area. The most solid info I have is a birth record in Italian with the stamp and everything for my Maternal Grandmother's Father. His name is Pietro Calusio born 1 Aug 1887. Lucky for me it was translated by someone in my family (Transcribed below). I also have a 1900 Census record that lists Arrival dates for John Calusio in 1887 and Peter Calusio 1891. Also shows 3 daughters Agnes, Mary and Angelica.

(Transcription)
Birth Certificate recorded by the Registrar of the Civilian Court in the year 1887.
In the year 1887 on Aug 3, at 10:00 AM in the Town Hall before Pietro Magnarti, officer of theCivilian Court of San Giorgio Canavese, Giovani Calusio son of Pietro Calusio, 25 yrs old, a farmer living in this town presented himself and declared that at 9:40 PM on Aug 1st 1887 in the house at Viatonia his wife, Anna Chiumino, daughter of Giovani Chiumino, gave birth to a male child, Pietro, named after his Grandfather. Present at the time of birth were the following witnesses Dominico Milano age 40 and Carlo Mogiano age 30.
The two witnesses present at the birth here below sign as the father of the child being registered is illiterate.
This copy was requested by Anna Chiumino on 16 April 1891.

Welcome to the website I would check out the Family history Library micro films of San Giorgio Canavese (Torino), 1570-1899 Church films( THey are in Italian and Latin) for there birth records and there parents marriage records There is one films with births with a index from Battesimi 1844-1899 Indice dei battesimi 1570-1899 Matrimoni 1616-1705 so you can search through the files by using the index
Also since his father was Pietro Calusio, 25 yrs old( So you got to figure around 1860 for there marriage) you can check the Matrimoni 1705-1899 Morti 1616-1838 it will be there if his wife was born there for most Italian marriages occur in the town of the bride
With 2 films you can do alot of family researching

Wow. Thanks for the info. I will see what I can accomplish with that.

After posting I found a newspaper clipping I had saved talking about John and Anna's 50th wedding anniversary. It listed their marriage as December 4, 1886 in San Giorgio. I have aprox. birth years for each also. John in 1862, Anna in 1866. Through Familysearch.org I also found John's mother's name was Agnes Velo.

A lot of info to use. Hopefully I can sort through it all.
