Di/DePietro

Postby comeseibella311 » 20 Apr 2012, 05:06

Are there any tips for finding your family when your name is SO common and there have been spelling changes?

I know my great-grandfather, Nicholas DePietro came from Guardia Perticara‏, Italy some time between 1880 and 1900 and settled in Connectcut but cannot find any arrival or immigration information. I'm also trying to find out if he has any other siblings and his parents info... more than likely his name would be Nicholoas DiPietro. When he married, my great-grandmother changed the spelling to De to differentiate us from the others ... talk about needle in a haystack!!

Any help would be really appreciated!! :mrgreen:

You can even go back further with the Family History Library Films of Guardia Perticara (Potenza) 1809-1910 Births, banns, marriages, deaths, miscellaneous documents. Text in Italian.
Family History Locator

Ordering Films from FHL

Reading and translating Italian records
https://www.familysearch.org/learningce ... 22Italy%22
Films available from FHL for Guardia Perticara
https://www.familysearch.org/eng/librar ... uardia+P++
I went through most of the death record indexes trying to find more records of your family from Guardia Perticara you will have to use the films to get back any further most of the records will give ages so you can estimate the years you need
If you find some records and need them translated just put them on here there are alot of great people on here that will help you

Sorry for the long delay - this record has been a help! I found 3 of their children so far, cousins to my great-grandfather.
