Pellegrino Bellitti

Postby sciacca100 » 22 Apr 2012, 19:26

I am trying to find a date and location of death on my grandmother, Vincenza Bellitti's brother Pellegrino Bellitti. Parents were Antonino Bellitti and Giovanna Fauci. I know he was born around 1892, that he emigrated to the US in 1910 travelling on the SS Romanic from Naples to Boston, and he married Anna Bellotta on 12/6/1914. I cannot seem to find any info on him after that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

According to the Boston City Directory for 1938, Anna Bellitti was the widow of Pellegrino, living at 295 North (St/Ave??)...

Looks like Pellegrino died between 1930 Census and 1938 Directory -
Maybe a search of obituaries in Boston will bring results?

Yes, this is the family. I will try searching the Boston obits. He may also be buried at the Italian cemetary in Roslindale, MA - I'll give them a call also now that you've narrowed down the dates. Thanks for your help.

I decided to look at other directory years to see if we could get a narrower focus :-)
Anna Bellitti is listed as a widow in 1937...
When I checked 1935, she is NOT listed in the directory, and neither is Pellegrino.
Antonio, and his wife, Maria, are listed as residing at 250 North (St/Ave?)

Could Pellegrino and Anna have moved somewhere else? and she returned to Boston after her husband died?

I'll check a few more of the directories between 1930 and 1937...

EDIT:
Here's what I found checking the other directory years.
Pellegrino and Anna Bellitte, were listed in the directory in 1933, living at 28 Fleet.
Neither of them shows up for years 1934, 1935.
In 1936, Anna is listed in the directory as a widow, living at 293 North.
During all of the above years, Antonio and Maria are listed, living at 250 North.

We can narrow down Pellegrino's death somewhere between 1933 and 1936...

While searching, I found that Antonio and Maria Bellitti, could actually be the PARENTS of Pellegrino... Named first son Antonio :-)
Arrival in 1914 (maybe for the wedding?)
Residing at 250 North St. in the 1930 US Census...

Hi Tessa,

Thanks for narrowing it down even further. I found a 1930 Census for Pelegrino Bellieti listing wife Anna and children. I see his year of birth is 1893 and immigration year as 1906. Actual immigration year was 1910 accordind to manifest I have. Can you tell me on what record you see his parents listed as Antonio & Maria Bellitti?

Thanks!

As I stated in my last post, "COULD... be the parents..." (Just thinking out-loud :-) )
They list their arrival in 1914 (year of Pellegrino's marriage), and they lived on North St in Boston.
It would also follow Italian naming tradition that Pellegrino would name his first son after his father.
In addition, their ages, and years married would fit with Pellegrino's age. (One the 1930 Census, Antonio is 65 and Maria is 55. They have been married for 40 years based on Antonio's age at marriage of 25, as his indicates.

Maybe I can find an arrival manifest for them which will link them to Pellegrino??

Got lucky! :D This record looks like a hit!

Arrival in 1913 of Antonino Bellitto, age 51.

His destination is Boston, MA - to join his wife Maria Giovanna and his son Pellegrino at North Square, Boston.
Traveling with Antonino are his children:
Paola, age 14
Rosa, age 8
Vincenza, age 4

Antonino indicates that his is leaving his father-in-law, Calogero Fauci, in SCIACCA
Sciacca is listed as the last residence for Antonino and the children...

Hi Tessa,

I have a copy of that manifest and that is why I thought you had seen something different with the names Antonio and Maria Bellitti possibly being his parents. I also have the manifest for Pellegrino, who traveled alone at age 18 years in 1910 to visit an uncle. I have his wife and children's names, but not his dod yet. I'll track down the years you gave me for some info. Thank you again and have a good evening!

I assumed you had this marriage record index for 1914 from Boston listing his parents (and hers) :-)

HIS - transcribed from record as... Antonino Ballitti and Anna Fance

So happy you found this - I saw this only once and was unable to locate again and did not have Anna's parents names. Thanks!
