Another occupational translation please

Post by ajcris13 »

Hi,

One of my relative was employed first as a Postiere de' Lotti and then became a Iupiegato(or Impiegato) di Marina. I have no idea what jobs could be.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

A "Postiere de' Lotti" is the person who received bets for the popular Italian game of Lotto (don't know if you know it, it's a sort of weekly national Bingo with an ancient tradition). He also tried to translate the dreams people told him into numbers to bet on.

About an "impiegato di marina" I'm not sure...it makes me think of a person who works as a clerk in a port. May be someone else can be more precise.

There is an Italian book called 'La Smorfia' which gives numbers related to images in dreams. Its in pictures so if you don't read Italian you could still use it. In the book I wote I describe how it was used in our family.
