Looking for Puccio

Postby aSelahE » 02 Jun 2012, 22:32

Hi. I'm trying to research my mother's father's family, who were from Gaggi, Sicily.
All I have on my g-grandfather is his name (Salvatore Puccio) and that he had a son, Joseph Ralph Puccio (my grandfather). Salvatore married a Mary Rose. I will provide more information.

I'm just hoping I can surprise my mother with information she wasn't able to research or find out from her parents, who are now both deceased.

I saw that Gaggi was destroyed in an earthquake in 1908. Other sites have that it's been restored, others, not. Any info on Gaggi in general would be helpful.

Thank you!

Hello and welcome! :-)

Can you provide an approx. year of birth for Salvatore and/or his son Joseph?

Where did Salvatore and Joseph live in US?

T.

My grandfather Joseph was born on March 11, 1913. I am unsure of my g-grandfather's birth date, however, he passed away in Sicily when my grandfather was approximately 8 years old, we believe. So roughly, 1921, give or take a year or two. My grandfather and his father lived in Johnstown, New York.

My grandfather moved back to Sicily to be with his father, and remained there with his paternal grandparents until he was 16. He then moved back to NY.

hope this helps!

and thank you for the welcome!

Hi if this record is right, seeming that Giuseppe/Joseph Puccio was born in Johnstown:
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 about Giuseppe Puccio
Name: Giuseppe Puccio
Arrival Date: 29 Jul 1929
Birth Year: 1913
Birth Location: New Jersey
Birth Location Other: johnston
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Saturnia
Search Ship Database: Search the Saturnia in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
joining at cousin Giuseppe Saetta( maybe Saitta) in 78 Catherine st New York...

I found just a probable record abt Salvatore:

Salvatore Pucccio( wife Maria Brunetti in Caggi, also spelled Kaggi instead of Gaggi):

Pag 1 http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0011

Pag 2 http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0011
already in USA from 1906 to 1909; joining at brother Paolo Puccio in Bridgeport, CT

I believe that this record could be the first arrival:
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 about Salvatore Puccio
Name: Salvatore Puccio
Arrival Date: 26 Apr 1907
Birth Year: abt 1872
Birth Location Other: eaaminia
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Italia
born in Taormina ( 1872 abt), married, last residence Gaggi; joining at nephews Giuseppe and Rosario Batticciotto 3 Mulberry st New York; in same ship's manifest, trip crossed, Antonino Puccio, same final destination of Salvatore, and born in Graniti...

also by a genealogic tree on ancestry.com:

Joseph R. Puccio
Birth 11 March 1913 in New York, USA
Death 29 October 1996 in New Jersey, USA

suanj,

thank you so much for the information! you brought tears to my eyes. that is my great grandfather, and his cousins did live in CT. my grandfather's half sister lives there still.

we were unsure of what my grandfather's mother's last name was, bc she remarried when he arrived back in the states. now thanks to you, Brunetti can be added to our family tree.

thank you so much. my mother is going to be so happy.
