who gets notified by whom

Postby dmt1955 » 06 Jul 2012, 21:40

i am curious about how notifications of events occur.

let's say i am from naples but die in rome. where would the death record be kept?
would the civil and/or church registry in naples get this information? would the notification happen via the authorities or more informally, say by family?

i wonder this as i have seen on birth records hand-written notations about deaths & marriages that did not occur in that community or in italy for that matter.

thanks,
donna

If you were born in Naples, but died in Rome, Rome would have the original civil death record. A copy would be sent to Comune of Naples and recorded there in Parte II or III. A notation should also be made on your birth record of the date and place of your death.
If the funeral took place in Rome the record would be kept at the Parish church in Rome. Family memebers would (may) notify their local priest.
Usually those notes you see are made if a certificate is required and they look up the original record and make the note at that time. Even if you marry outside Italy, you might need a baptism or birth certificate in that country. Priests notify each other out of courtesy not becasue they must.
