Vital Records for Reggio, Calabria - DiGiovanni / Fendo

Postby minkjazz » 17 Jul 2012, 10:46

I am trying to get birth certificates for my grandparents:

Luigi DiGiovanni 1881
Carmela Fendo 1886
both from Reggio, Calabria (pretty sure)

I am also trying to get a marriage certificate for them, but we are not sure where or when they were married.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Forum!
Most records in Italy are kept at the comune (town) level.
Did your grandparents come to the US?
If they did, do you have their US records (immigration, census, military, etc)
US records can have some great clues that may help with obtaining Italian records.

Requesting records from the comune Roggiano Gravina:

Italian form letter generator with instructions:
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

Note from member Laura (pink67):
If the document is for citizenship purpose you have to ask for the "Estratto dell'atto di nascita in modello plurilingue"

Address:

Ufficio di Stato Civile
Comune di Roggiano Gravina
Via Bufaletto
87017 Roggiano Gravina CS
ITALY

Great Work, Valarie! :D

Minkjazz,
The following link has an email contact for someone willing to do look ups for records in Roggiano Gravina. Not sure if it's still an active email but might be worth a try.

Thanks Biff :D !
We were pretty lucky that the ship manifests clarified the comune found on the naturalization paperwork.
It's great that you have a contact for Roggiano Gravina

wow thank you all!

the draft registration records are definitely about my grandfather, he came to the U.S. and lived in Philadelphia on Darien Street - although there are 3 different birth dates in aug. listed for Luigi, 11, 12, 27 on different documents, not sure which to go with.

the information about 1921 Declaration of Intention from resolving his Italian citizenship is not good for my dual citizenship application. is there any way to not mention this info in the application or to qualify through my grandmother that any one knows of? my father was born in Philadelphia in 1927.

He may not have naturallized. Definitive proof of his naturalization is not his first papers (Declaration of Intention) but rather a Petition for Naturalization and an Oath of Allegiance.
