Searching for family Names (DeLucca, Palermo, Chester)

Postby LizDowning » 22 Jul 2012, 20:31

I have death certificates from New York of my great grandfather/mother, and great great grandfather/mother. I am trying to figure out the region in Italy where they are from and the Italian name for "Chester". I think it's Cestera/o, but not sure. This is the family info I have so far:

Ida DeLuca Chester
B: January 13, 1855 (Italy)
D: May 10, 1938 (Brooklyn, NY)
Immigrated: abt 1887-1890
Father: Joseph (Giuseppi) DeLuca (B: Italy)
Mother: Teresa Palermo (B: Italy)

Michael Chester
B: abt 1855 (Italy)
D: September 22, 1921
Immigrated: abt 1887-1890
Father: Nicholas Chester (B: Italy)
Mother:?

Nicholas Chester
B: October, 1875 (Italy)
D: May 4, 1935 (Brooklyn, NY)
Immigrated: abt 1887-1890
Married: Sarah O'Byrne (B: 1874, Ireland)

I have basic information from ancestry.com, but am wanting to know more on how to research the family names and regions.

Thank you!
Liz

For what it's worth ... :-)

While searchng some records in Treviso (Veneto Region),
I came across the surname CESTER - which would pronounce like "Chester" :-)

Here is map of the distribution of the surname CESTER in Italy today...
