Joseph Marra from Montallegro

Postby mickigianadda » 26 Jul 2012, 04:47

I am looking for information about my grandfather Joseph Marra & my grandmother Maria Antonia Piazza Marra from Montallegro, Sicily.

My grandfather came to the US on March 4, 1909. He was 32 years old.
My grandmother came to the US on August 17, 1910 to meet her husband in Buffalo, NY. She was 27 years old.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Giuseppe Marra married at Mariantonia Piazza on 29 Dec 1901 in Montallegro:

Groom: MARRA Giuseppe, 26 old, farmer, born and resident in Montallegro son of Giovanni Marra and Mariantonia Todaro

Bride: PIAZZA Mariantonia, 19 old, seamstress, born and resident in Montallegro daughter of Giacinto Piazza and Giuseppa Liberto

I have done some research on the Ellis Island website looking for my maternal grandmother's siblings.

Everyone listed is from Montallegro, Sicily

Here are the results:

Mariantonia Piazza Marra’s Siblings:

Francesco Piazza 1872 Married

Alfonso Piazza 1882 Married
Brother-Liborio Piazza
120 Erie St Bflo

M’Antonia Piazza
(Marra) 1884 Married *Grandmother*

Antonio Piazza 1890 Married

Alfonso Piazza 1892 Single
120 Erie St Bflo

Domenico Piazza 1894 Married
Buffalo

Antonino Piazza 1895 Single
Buffalo

I would like help finding my grandmother's brothers and sisters. Perhaps some of her siblings did not come to
the US.

The "years" range from 1872 to 1895, so I realize that the span is 23 years.
(That may seem unlikely, but my grandmother on my father's side had 13 children from 1901 - 1924.)
So I haven't left out any names.

This is the first step - I may have made a few mistakes.

All help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Micki, on ancestry.com, abt Montallegro civil records, the births are just from 1866-1868 so I cannot help you...
instead if you search in:
Registri dello stato civile di Montallegro (Agrigento), 1821-1910
Civil registers from the municipality of Montallegro in the province of Agrigento. Some registers include an index.

on the Familysearch website

https://www.familysearch.org/search/ima ... %3D1946817

you can find the records that you are searching for..

Suanj,

I want to thank you for all your help!

I have 2 small questions for you:
1. What does the "Ma" mean before the name "Ma Michela".
It has shown up on many Ellis Island searches.

2. What does the name "Jennie" translate into in Italian/Sicilian?

Thank you in advance.

Suanj,

While searching the Ellis Island website, I found the "Place of last Residence" of Pietro Marra listed as
" S. Ang. Lomb".

What town does that abbreviation stand for?

Thank you for the information.
