Edward and Clotilde Guerriero

Postby Amansolillo » 04 Aug 2012, 08:18

I am look for information on Edward and Clotilde Guerriero. Both were born in Italy and lived in Rhode Island at one point. They most likely came from Pontecorvo. Clotilde's maiden name was Cipiriano. Her mother may have been a Simonelli or a Bevilacqua as she was apparently the cousin of my great-grandmother (whose parents were Simonelli and Bevilacqua). Edward and Clotilde had five children: Lucio, Anna, Carlo, Pasqualina, and Alfred. I'd appreciate any information that could be found linking the Guerrieros to either the Simonellis or the Bevilacquas. Thanks.

According to this Nov 1909 manifest for Clotilde Cipriano (spelled Cipriani on the manifest)...
She was traveling with her cousin Maria Santamaria.
Both were leaving their uncle GIOVANNI SIMONELLI in Minturno; and traveling to Providence, RI.
Place of birth for both was Pontecorvo.
Clotilde was going to her father Carlo CIPRIANO; and Maria was going to her uncle Serafino SIMONELLI - They were both going to the SAME ADDRESS... :-)

Thanks Tessa. Did you find anything that made mention about who Maria Santamaria's parents were? Also, here's some extra information if it will help. Serafino Simonelli died in 1917. His parents were Fabbiano and Filomena.

I already have that record, but what confuses me is that on Ancestry.com, it lists her kin. The fist is her husband Serafino, and the second is an Addolorata Simonelli. I have no clue who that Addolorata is and I can't seem to find any record of her.

Found a Maria Santamaria, age 27 in the 1910 Census (age would be about right) living in Providence as a "boarder" with the Frank Petrella? family. She is listed as a widow and has a 1 month old child, listed as AOLA...

Found this birth record for Iola Santamaria, born March 1910 to Maria Santamaria in Rhode Island. Maybe you can get Maria's parents names from this record, IF this is the same Maria Santamaria who traveled with Clotilde Cipriano :-)

In the ship manifest, was Maria Santamaria listed as being married or single? If she was single, then her child's last name wouldn't be Santamaria.

UNLESS...
The notation of M or S was an error...
The spouse was also named Santamaria...
Maria was NEVER married...
The census taker ASSUMED that the child's name was Santamaria when Maria indicated that hers was Santamaria...

There are errors made all the time...
Sometimes we can solve the mystery :-) and sometimes we can not :-(

I found a marriage record for a Maria Santmaria and a Domenico Mastrobuono that took place in November 1910. However, according to Iola Santamaria's birth record, she was born in March 1910. The death record of this Maria Santamaria-Mastrobuono states that she was born in 1891 in Pontecorvo. Could there be a chance that this is our Maria Santamaria?

I think there is a very good chance! Nice find!
