Does anyone have an Ancestry "world" account?

Postby montclaire » 06 Aug 2012, 16:13

I'm finally wrapping up a mystery that I have been working on for probably five years. My great grandmother was adopted, and while her Ellis Island docket listed her foster parent's names, finding out just who they were was a much bigger job than I figured on. Changing their names more often than most of us would change our socks didn't help, but I've finally nailed it down, and I was hoping that someone with a world account might see if they could find their marriage record, and hopefully, with that the foster mother's maiden name. I have a regular membership but the euro version was too much $ for me to carry. Thanks in advance

Giovanni and Domenica M Summa, born 1867/1868 in Avigliano, PZ, married at age 24 (~1891). Giovanni also went by the name of Giam Battista in Ellis Island documents, and a slew of others once he got here.

Marty, I don't know, that's the main reason why I am trying to find it. Their ages are pretty solid from the US census reports, and I know they were married before they came over. Giovanni listed his age of marriage at 24, which would make it 1891.

Is SUMMA the surname of Giovanni or Domenica?

Like Marty, I checked the marriage records and publications records indexes for Avigliano (1889-1893) and did not find your Giovanni/GiamBattista :(

Also checked the birth records indexes for 1866 and 1868 (1867 is missing) and did not find him.
There are LOTS of Summa births, but nothing close to the given name you provided.

Believe it or not, I just found it on THIS BOARD. lol I was looking into the son, Vito, to try to find an obit with the mother's maiden name. I found he died in 1985, so I searched Vito Summa 1985, and was directed to post on this site. topic19142-30.html

I'll digest all the info tonight but there it is. The best is my response on the topic, which starts out as "I'm just reading over some of this and I have to wonder if we're related."

Thanks for your help

Oh, and the REAL good news is that I am hoping this gives enough documentation for me to get some further info on my great grandmother, and her mysterious beginnings...

Hey, Marty! :-D

Great find... I guess the census WAS off.. by about 6 years! LOL
That would put his year of birth about 1861, not 1867...
