Fazio - Proscia

Postby kerryesmith » 08 Aug 2012, 21:30

Hi,

Im looking for information about a Tomasio Fazio, he was from Bari, Italy and came to U.S. in or about 1902, with his wife Angelina Proscia and their 2 sons, Joseph & John. Angelina was pregnant at the time with their third child, William. Tomasio was born in or about 1878 and Angelina was born around 1877. John would have been born around 1899 and Joseph around 1901. On my records, Tomasio has also been written as Tomasso and Thomas & Angelina as Angela. Im trying to find information on both Tomasio & Angelina.

Hello, Kerry! Welcome :-D

Is the Family tree on Ancestry (owner ksmith1) yours?
You have collected some good records...

I was able to locate a 1915 NYS Census for the family
http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=Vi ... id=5620879
I would appear that son, Giovanni/John, arrived a year later than his mother and brother.
While looking for a possible manifest for him...
I found an interesting one for may of 1903...
Arrival of Giovanni Fazio, age 51, married, farmer from Palo del Colle (BARI)...
Destination is to his SON, Tomasso Fazio on Elizabeth St., in NY

Based on Italian naming patterns, Tomasso would have named his son after his own father, i.e. GIOVANNI :-)
Traveling with Giovanni is a 5 year old, named GIOVANNI Fazio (age is right for your John)...BUT...he is listed as his nephew, not his grandson --- My thoughts on that.... the Italian word "nipote" is used for BOTH nephew AND grandson - so this "translation" onto the manifest may have been an error...
It is something to consider. Matches the information in the 1915 Census.

manifest link in Ancestry... lines 29 and 30

Here is the possible birth listing for William from NYC vital Records...

Fazio Wm Oct 2 1901 Cert.#13631 Kings County

If this is the son born shortly after Angelina's arrival, then you should look for a ship manifest from 1901 and not 1902. That would also make Joseph/Giuseppe's birth a little earlier than 1901 :-)

You can request a copy of this birth record. It should give you their address in 1901.
