Orlando's from Agnone that came to Chicago

Postby samueljorlando » 19 Aug 2012, 20:42

My name is Samuel Orlando.
My great grandfather and his family came here from Italy in 1880/1881 from Agnone, Italy. My great grandfather's name was Samuel Orlando and he was born in Chicago (1897). His father's name was Giovanni Orlando (born 1853 in Agnone), and his mothers name was Diomira Dagnillo (1856) (D'Agnillo?). Giovanni and Diomira were married in 1880. From what I can tell, Giovanni had a brother named Pietro (born about 1870). Giovanni's father was Dominico Orlando and his mother's name was Rachael Ferrara. This is as far back as I can go and as much as I know.

There are other Orlando's that live within doors of them in the 1930's; however, I am unsure of any relation. Antonio Orlando (born about 1880) and Giancinta, who are also from Agnone.

I should note that although the information says that Giovanni was born in 1863, his tombstone and census records all put his birth at 1853.

You will find that sometimes US records (especially death records) can be VERY inaccurate :-)

Do you have the arrival records for these ancestors?

Have you tried writing directly to the Comune of Agnone for the birth record of Giovanni Orlando?
