Orphanages in Brescia in 1818

Postby greenk7 » 05 Jun 2013, 12:43

My great, great grandfather was born in Brescia about 1818-1820. He was abandoned at birth with unknown parents of unknown place of residence. He referred to himself as Marcello Madafilo dello Ospedale di Brescia (Marcello Madafilo of the hospital of Brescia). He told his children that he was raised in an orphanage by nuns. Can anyone tell me about hospitals in Brescia at that time? And how do I find out which orphanage he was raised in?
I have some information about the Ospedale Maggiore of Brescia and the adjacent San Luca Parish Church where abandoned babies where often baptised.
Thank you
Kathy
