I finally found my gggrandparents marriage in Lari, Italy in 1904, thanks to familysearch, and I was hoping particularly that it would give me the names of my gggrandfather's parents and it does give his father's name. However, where his mother's name should be it says "di madre incognita." Which as far as I can tell means 'mother unknown.'
Does anyone know what circumstances might lead to the mother being listed as unknown?? Is this the correct translation or meaning?
Any help/ideas would be appreciated!
