I am pretty sure that the WWI draft registration card found by Marty is right record... because your Charles Romano moved in many towns for the work....
Thanks Marty for the great find!

Marty...so do you think the ship manaifest that shows the arrival in 1905 into Boston is him as well?? It seems like it is the only obvious choice...if so then the Abruzzo area may have been his birth area? You and Suanj have helped me more in one weekend then I have had done in a long time. I am so grateful to you two!!! I think I told you that the Charles Romano Jr. was my dad and that was his foster family...The McCoys.

Hi Helen,
thanks, very helpful...
maybe I found something.. I believe that the possible Birth place was LAPIO town in Avellino province...
seeming that match enough.. I don't say that is ok to 100%, just that is the more possible records, just I believe:
Ciriaco ( or similar spell) ROMANO born in Lapio on 12 Jan 1885..
I believe son of Nicola Romano ( Lapio b 1838.. Death:.. son of Ciriaco Romano and Mariantonia) and Cristina Mottola ( Lapio b. 1856.. Death: ..?); the first wife of Nicola Romano was Laurentana Maria Carbone ( Lapio Abt. 1844 .. Death around 1884 in Lapio).
I found:

Cirico Romano

United States World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942

Name: Cirico Romano
Event Type: Draft Registration
Event Date: 1942
Event Place: New York City, New York, New York, United States
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 12 Jan 1885
Affiliate ARC Identifier: 2555973

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... cc=1861144
the birthdate match... enough with WWI draft registration card... the birthplace is no wrote, but Lapio surely!
I cannot find the arrival... but I wish search abt that and abt Cristina.. abt Antonio Voggla and Pepina .. Pepina is the italian diminutive of Josephine... I believe that the right surname spelling is: VEZZELLA.. here what I found:

Josephine Romano

mentioned in the record of Joseph Vezzella

Name: Josephine Romano
Birthplace: Lapio, Italy
Gender: Female
Husband: Antony Vezzella
Son: Joseph Vezzella

Other information in the record of Joseph Vezzella

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... cc=1536925
next of kin was Mary Christopher ( = Maria Cristoforo) in Fitchburg, Worcester, Massachusetts

I believe right family:

the family in 1940 census:

I believe that mary Cristoforo was born with the name of Maria Rosa or Mariantonia or Marioa Antonia because I found these first names in the records... and surely Romano maiden name... because are on the Birth records of children....

just for to correct my last post, in my search, wrong copy and paste:
Cirico Romano

United States World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942

Name: Cirico Romano
Event Type: Draft Registration
Event Date: 1942

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... cc=1861144

OK. And:

Event Type: Draft Registration
Event Date: 1917-1918
Event Place: Fitchburg City, Massachusetts, United States

but by another record, the his birthdate is different:

Bassilio Christoforo

Event Type: Draft Registration
Event Date: 1917-1918
Event Place: Fitchburg City, Massachusetts, United States
Gender: Male
Nationality: Italy
Birth Date: 10 May 1879
Birthplace: , , Italy
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... cc=1968530

but by censuses seeming right 1873 his birth year....

If someone can search by ancestry.com, Arrivals - Boston from 1820 to 1943, the ship's manifest of this family:
MO rosa Romano
and sons:
Domenicantonio Romano crossofaro
Guiseppe Romano crossofaro
all joining at Basilio Cristoforo, and coming from Lapio...

thanks,

Suanj,

Marty just posted me and told he to check my posts!!! I sent a bunch of replies on Thursday but it appears they did not go through!! I am sooo sorry!!! I am eternally grateful to you. I had tears in my eyes on the way home from work. I have been checking sites like Gencom and found several posts by a Henry Chamberlin who did a lot of research for the Romano's in Lapio. I am trying to get in touch with him. Within all those posts were names of possible reaaltives like the Christoforo's. All the information you found matches what is in the few pages of family background that I have in the orphanage. I am stunned. After all these years and with your help I have some solid links. Now to find out what happened to my Grandfather Ciriaco Romano. The last info was the WWII draft card. I am going to get on Ancestry.com and see what I can find. I have been writing and researching stuff every since you sent me that info. I am sorry that for some reason it did not got through!!!!! If I could give you a hug I would. Someday when I come to Italy I would like to meet you and share some wine from the Romano Winery...yes I researched that in Lapio! I want to try to find more on my grandfather and hopefully can present this to my family with a few bottles of the Romano wine from Lapio!!!! I will try to find his ship passenger record now and anything else I can come up with. You have opened up a big door for me and I am so so very grateful!! Mille Gratzie (spelling?)

Hi Helen,
don't wooryy.. I knew that you read my replies... all is ok...
I searched also Yesterday abt the arrival, but I cannot find it.. as a well the arrival of Cristina Mottola... I searched also in the New York deaths until 1948 and no Ciriaco/Charles record.. almost no with right birthyear.. the last infos are on his WWII draft registration card.. in New York.... maybe he died in Massachusetts or Pennsylvania... however... I believe that some descendent of his halfsisters can know abt he... if died in USA or back in Italy... I believe he died in USA... never remarried...
Some infos that I found abt Ciriaco parents was on a public genealogic tree on ancestry.com.. maybe the owner is Henry Chamberlin... when I read that Nicola Romano father was Ciriaco, I searched by Ciriaco first name and no Charles or Carlo .. and the WWII draft registration card came up.. the next of kind mentione, give me other input... and I am pretty sure that we have found your ancestor...
best regards,
suanj

Dear Suanj
Just a quick update on the Romano family. I have been in touch with two family members and we are sharing info! My family is definitely from Lapio. Henry Chamberlain is my fifth cousin twice removed and he has done the research on eight lines of Romanos from that area. He has also been there to visit and had dinner with Dr. Filomena Romano who is more directly related to me than Henry as I have come to find out from him! I am also in touch with my second cousin from Fitchburg Steven Christofono. He has been going to graveyards and taking pictures for me. He is so kind and so is Henry. You have no idea how you have helped my family with the info you gave me. It opened so many doors. I will keep you posted on this journey. It appears my grandfather Ciriaco came over using a his brothers birth certificate. He was the first born named Ciriaco on 1/12/1885. This explains why he could not get the date correct on the WW2 draft card. His real dob is 5/14/1887. I found one that died in 1974 in NY in the same are where the addresses on the draft cards are. I also think that my grandfather left him at the orphanage because I hate to say it but my grandmother was a little "loose" and told him the baby was not his. Maybe he believed her. However I have those two letters from him to the orphanage sending money and love. Maybe because he wasn't sure that he didn't want to put burden or shame on his family. All my grandmothers marriages (3x) were Anglo Saxon names. My father was very Italian looking. My sister and I spoke and we are going to do the DNA kit from Ancestry.com. We want to be positive. Anyway like I said. I will keep you posted.

Helen

Hi Helen,
that strange and sad story! I think your grandmother wanted to offend Ciriaco... and so deprived the child of affection of the father, the only person who truly loved .... I am positive also that the person deceased in 1974 could be your ancestor... it could be helpful to find some obit also...
Thanks for update,
