I've seen some amazing connections made on this forum, so . . .
I'm trying to find where my Carano ancestors came from. A brief newspaper article from February, 1915 stated that my great-great-grandfather, Nicholas Carano, had just died in Italy. No location was given but we think it was Carovilli in Campobasso.
His son, my great-grandfather, was born in 1859 so Nicholas would have been born around 1830-1840.
Among the towns of Molise, the surname Carano is most often found in Carovilli. In addition, it is the second most common surname in that comune. The civil records of Carovilli, 1809-1899, have been filmed by the LDS. These films can be rented and viewed at the Family History Centers run by the LDS. You could also check to see if they have put them online yet. I suspect you will find your family in these records.
