Maria Rizzelli or Rizzello - which one is it?

Postby gliesian66 » 25 Jul 2013, 13:35

Is the last name Rizzelli or Rizzello?

Maria Rizzelli or Rizzello
Birth: 1890, Pizzoni, Catanzaro (Vibo Valentia), Calabria, IT
Death: 1960, Richland NJ

Father: Donmenico Rizzello or Rizzelli (1868)
Mother Maria Teresa Di Renzo
Brother: Nicola Rizzello or Rizzelli
Husband: Salvatore Dominic Mesiano (21 Dec 1887 - 1950) Born in Pizzoni, Catanzaro, Died in Florida

What I'd like to know:
Is the last name Rizzelli or Rizzello?
I'd also like to know the actual birth dates of Maria, her brother and her parents.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks,
Robert Liguori

I have the same issue with my Cella or Celli surnames; my observation is depending on the sex of the person is reliant on the last vowel used on the last name. I could be wrong but this is what i think is the case with old Italian.
Usually the males in my family were Cella and the Females were Celli.

A quick check on the Italian white pages (paginebianche.it) as well as Steve Morse's site showed hits only for the surname Rizzello.

I found the same thing, with the A and I endings, only, I didnt conclude that it was a male and female thing, until I saw this. However, my male has the A and my female has the I, so I have a feeling, this might be correct.

This appears to be brother Nicola's WWII Draft Reg card. DOB: 21 Jul 1894 in Pizzoni.

Yes... I thought it was Rizzello too... but all of the descendents when asked all say Rizzelli.
