Sarnese family in Carlentini Italy

Postby scraig32 » 14 Aug 2013, 05:56

Hello, I am looking for help in finding birth or marriage certificates for my ggg grandparents. Here is what i have found so far- Michael Sarnese was born in Carlentini, Italy on January 29, 1885 or 1889 to Francesco Sarnese ( Sarnesi?) born August 1 , 1862 and Antonetta Poche, Poce or Peche born July 1868. Thank you so much for your help.

Have you seen this Sons of Italy admission document which shows Michael's (Michele) birthplace as Riccia in the province of Campobasso?

Thank you so much! Where ever did you find that first document? I have an Ancestry account but never saw such document.

Can you tell in the Sons admission if Teresa is listed as his first wife. I have reason to believe that she is his second wife and that he had 8 children with his first- Mary Napolitano

I found the document on Ancestry--it's on the page before the death certificate shown as proof of death to the Sons of Italy.

My translation skills aren't the best but it appears that he had 8 children with his first wife; also found the 1920 census with wife Mary and 8 children.

That is exactly what I thought! You are so quick. Someone else translated that Teresa was his first wife but I translated it like you did, especially with those census documents. I got worried so then look up Theresa. Her maiden name is Paola (from the document you found) and then I found that she was married to a Fabrizio before Michael Sarnese. I really really appreciate your help and second opinion!!!!!! I am totally addicted to family research!

The application does reference Teresa as his first wife but if the 1920 census is correct, he had 8 children prior to his and Teresa's marriage in 1926.
