Antonio Bloise... also need help for Maria Bloise

Post by dominique426 »

My 2nd great grandmother Maria (she preferred Mary) never knew her father.

She was told when she was a little girl that her father was a railway worker. She knew he was born in Italy (she was under the impression that he was Calabrian due to her mother being Calabrian) and he married her mother Maria. Mary was born in Chicago, IL in 1910. She was told that he was brutally killed one day by a railway accident.

I was only told that her real maiden name was BLUTH. I always found this very strange because I have never seen an Italian with that spelling! I believe Bluth is Polish. The idea of my grandmother being half Italian seemed off because of her features and the fact that her mother only spoke Italian!

After much and much research and a spout of good luck, I came to ANTONIO BLOISE and MARIA G BLOISE in Chicago, IL 1910. This Antonio was a railway worker- not to mention that when my 3rd great grandmother married her 3rd husband, she used the name Maria G. Bloise! The arrival year for Maria is also correct. I really have no question that is him.

1910 Census: http://postimg.org/image/w3zglfsk1/full/

However, now that I have a name, I want to find out more about him... specifically if he died of a train accident. I found this death index information below:

Name: Antonio Bloise
Birth Date: abt 1878
Birth Place: Italy
Death Date: 25 Nov 1911
Death Place: Chicago, Cook, Illinois
Burial Date: 30 Nov 1911
Cemetery Name: Mt Carmel
Death Age: 33
Occupation: Laborer
Race: White
Marital Status: Married
Gender: Male
Residence: 714 Taylor St.
Father Name: Giuseppe Bloise
Father Birth Place: Italy
Mother Name: Domenia Filardo
Mother Birth Place: Italy
FHL Film Number: 1287615

But, I can't find any information on Domenia or Giuseppe... I can't even find anything on Antonio beyond the 1910 census. I'd like ANY information on him.

My 2nd great grandmother never had a birth record either. She was told her date of birth was December 16th 1910. It could also possibly be December 6th. I would like to order a birth record or find some definite confirmation of her birth....

Is there any help anyone could lend to me? My grandmother always wondered who her father really was as did I.

After this wonderful find, I found her baptism record listing. I really did. It was an amazing feeling... I have tears in my eyes! :o

I was wondering if some of my kind friends could explain why (Guisppina Marinda) is written under that surname? And if anyone could understand what was written next to MARIA as well as the names of the godparents. I can't make them out...

I think that this may have been the first marriage for Antonio Bloise, in Italy, San Sosti:

Marriage Act number 1 - Year 1898

Groom: Bloise Antonio, single, age 26, farmer, born and resident in San Sosti, son of the late Giuseppe resident in San Sosti when alive, and of the living Ierardi Domenica;

Bride: Cardinale Sabata, single, age 16, farmer, born and resident in San Sosti, parents unknown;

marriage date: 8 january 1898

Possibly Antonio's mother Domenica Ierardi after the death of her husband Giuseppe Bloise married Giuseppe's brother Antonio Bloise (I noticed that on the 1899 arrival manifest Antonio, Domenica's son, stated he was going to his mother Domenica and uncle Antonio Bloise living on W Taylor street)... Now I found another arrival for "your" Antonio Bloise , stating he was going to meet his step-father Antonio Bloisi living on 169 West Taylor Street...

21 june 1905

Bloisi Antonio, age 33, male, married, from San Sosti to Chicago:

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0029

Being him married it means that his wife Sabata Cardinale was living in San Sosti...

I truly thank you beyond words! :D

I not been so pleased and thrilled with my genealogy finds so far as this! My grandmother had a cruel step-father and lived in immense poverty so she always wondered who her father was and how different her life would be. I can't wait to track him further.... I hope that I can find some Bloise relatives that may have a photo of him. It seems like a pipe dream but you never know!

For the last Ellis Island Log:

Is that him or a relative? I was a bit confused on that one...

I Think it was him... possibly he left San Sosti for first and then he returned most likely (and as usual) to bring his wife with him ... don't know why she was not with him in 1905, maybe she was ill or she didn't want to leave?
