Romeo/Ionta/Dascoli Family - Calabria Italy

Post by lechenea »

Hello!

I'm looking for some information regarding the Romeo/Ionta family from the Calabria region of Italy. I've been able to go back only to a certain point in the 1800s, and have had roadblocks since that point. Since I can't afford to make a visit right now myself, I thought maybe one of you would have some information.

George Romeo (b.5 Feb 1874) - from stories my family tells me, they lived in the Calabria region of Italy, possibly Cosenza. Romeo is basically the Italian version of Smith, so it's hard to make sure that it's him. He immigrated in 1898 to the U.S. and died in Oct 1933.
Angelina Maria Ionta (b.1865) - Wife of George Romeo, she immigrated to the US in probably around the same time as George, though I have not been able to verify this. Their son Albert, was born in the U.S. shortly after 1898, so this is why I'm making this conclusion.
Pasquale Ionta - All I have on Pasquale is that he was born in Lazio, Italy. He is listed on Angelina's death certificate, which is my only source of information on Pasquale.
Vincenza Dascoli - All I have on Vincenza is that she was born in Lazio, Italy as well. She is listed on Angelina's death certificate.

I have not been able to find George's parents names. Any help would be appreciated. If it's in Italian, I have a friend who can translate, so any help in any language would be great!

Thank You!
Amanda

So I was able to find Gennaro Romeo, and you were right, Albert (my great-grandfather) was born in Italy. No one in my family knew. They were horrible about passing down their heritage and stories.

Anyways, I'm trying to use the Archivio di Stato Napoli, and however awesome my French is, my Italian is poor. Can anyone tell me where to go to get to a similar search like they have for Cosenza? Website is below.

http://www.archiviodistatonapoli.it/asnaCMS/

I'm looking for some sort of database where I can type first name and last name, approximate birthdate (or range) and city of origin or something like that. I've gathered that Gennaro is from Serino, so any more help would be appreciated.

There are no database online for Serino town.
But if you're familiar with the Family History center you can go to your nearest center and ask them to rent microfilms for the civil registrations in Serino:

https://familysearch.org/search/catalog ... %20Library

here you can find several towns online on the Familysearch.org website (under the Avellino province) but Serino is not included
