Anzano di Puglia surnames.....

Postby PJGenova » 07 Apr 2005, 18:46

:D Hello there. I am new to this site. My great-grandfather was born in Anzano degli Irpina, which is now known as Anzano di Puglia. I was wondering if anyone is also researching surnames from this town that appear in my family tree:

Genova or Genua (great-grandfather)

Also,
Cerasuolo
Salierno
Puopolo
Pastore
Nicastro
Rossi
Colella
Leone?

My gr-grandfather, Pietro Genova, emigrated to Boston at the age of 16 in 1907, and he lived in the north end.

If anything looks familiar, please contact me!

P.J. Genova

Hi I will take the Colella surname.

My relations are also from Puglia and in particular I know the following Colella first names

Carmella
Chiara [died in Childhood illness]
FRancesco
Manuello
Michele
Vito

Let me know if any of these match.

Hi there,

I'm not sure if you are just trying to find other people with your same surname or looking for how to find information on those surnames.

I will tell you that the Family History Center has microfilm that you can order and rent for the town of Anzano di Puglia. (Sorry if you already know this information, but just wanted to share it in case other's don't know).

Here are the film numbers
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

Also, don't forget Infobel and Paginebianche Directories to look for people still in the town with your surname in case you would like to write them.

Infobel Directory
http://www.infobel.com/italy/wp/search/default.asp

Pagine Bianche Directory
http://www.paginebianche.it/index.html

Also, its great to see that there could be a connection between the two posts.:)

Hope this helps,
Trish

Hi,

Both my parents were born in Anzano Di Puglia, Foggia. Some of the surnames you have listed are familiar and some live in the Toronto Area (Canada). Some include:

Puopolo
Colella
Nicastro

Hi PJ.

I am also searching for ancestors from Anzano. My grandmother was born a Rossi, and emigrated to Boston in 1913 with her 5 children. My grandfather (Ricciardi) was already there.

I am going to Anzano this summer to look up more information. Are you looking for information on your great grandfather in Anzano, or in Boston?

If you go to the Anzano Comune website, you can email for information.
Email address: comuneanzanodipuglia@libero.it

Otherwise, Ancestry.com will have records for U.S. (census, miliary drafts, birth, death, etc.). You'll have to joint though.

Happy hunting!
L Hughes

Hi guys. I'm on my way to Anzano di Puglia. My grandfather and grandmother were from there and also emigrated to Boston, where my father was born in the north end.

Here are the last names in our family:

Damiano
Puopolo
Marciello
Mastrangelo

I do not speak Italian, at least not any socially acceptable words, but I'm going for the feast of Our Lady of Anzano di Puglia, a big thing in the village. There are many Anzanese in Toronto. There is a Facebook page of the village, where I have been able to communicate with he help of Google Translate.
