Apicella

Postby jellie » 08 Apr 2005, 07:53

Hi,

I am a complete newbie at this so please be patient :lol

I am researching the surname Apicella and have very little to go on.
My grandmother is Maria Madelena Apicella, born and died in England. I believe her parents, or perhaps the previous generation, emmigrated there from Salerno.
An older relative of mine visited some family members living in Ravello about a decade ago but she has since died so I am working on this alone.

I know that Maria's father married someone by the surname of Bunce, and that her (Maria) grandfather was Bernard Apicella.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

Hi There,

If you can get Maria's Marriage Application, it could list information about her parents. The same things goes with trying to get Maria's Birth information and/or death information. Each certificate could give you clues to find what town the family is from.

Per the 1901 England Census, this is what I found

Name Age in 1901 Birthplace Relationship Civil Parish County/Island View Image

Bernard Apicella 27 Ita Foreign Subject Head Mile End Old Town London
Givrania Apicella 18 Ita Foreign Subject Son Mile End Old Town London
Mary A Apicella 21 Windsor, Buckinghamshire, England Wife Mile End Old Town London
Vicenzina Apicella 16 Ita Foreign Subject Servant Mile End Old Town London

Here is Maria's Birth information.
Name: APICELLA, Maria Madelena
Record Type: Births
Quarter: June
Year: 1902
District: Mile End Old Town
County: London Middlesex
Volume: 1c
Page: 506

Since you mention Bernardo and he shows up in the 1901 Census, he could be the person related to Maria. Also, if you can get his Naturalization records, you might be able to find the town in Italy that he is from.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Hi,
My Great grandfather's name was Michael Apicella and he was also from Salerno, Italy. He was born in 10/1880. His father was Thomas Apicella and his mothers maiden name was Jennie Ferrara.

Please let me know if any of this helps, as I am also looking for information.

Thanks,
Eric
