Please help in finding the Pollitt/Palazzi family

Postby jguizio » 28 Dec 2013, 03:00

Hello Again!
I'm trying to find out where my grandmother's maternal side of the family was from but it's proving to be very difficult. Her Mother's maiden name was Teresa Pollitt. She later became Teresa Vigorito after marriage. They lived in Paterson NJ. Teresa was born in Italy in approximately 1878 and according to a census report she came over in 1880. I have heard she was Sicilian but could have been from elsewhere in Southern Italy. On my grandmother's baptism record it says her mother's name was Teresa Palazzi. I think her father's name may have been Michele. I found a ship record a while back that I think may be them:

I also found this 1910 census report that may be the family after Teresa had already moved out.
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse. ... &ml_rpos=1

I know that most of the family were silk dyers in Paterson and this lists the father's occupation as that which makes me think it may be them.
I would really like to find an earlier census report that might show Teresa or the younger sister Irena that is on the ship manifest I linked.

Here is Teresa on a 1920 Census after she was married:

Anything at all that someone could dig up would be wonderful.

Thanks!
Jenni

Could someone look at the 1st link I posted and look at the 2nd child. I immediately read her name as Irena but now thinking about it that doesn't seem like an Italian name. Can anyone decipher?
Thanks!
