New to searching, looking for advice

Postby Ltenn » 29 Dec 2013, 21:09

I am a member of ancestry, I am somewhat of a beginner. I am searching for relatives from the village of Montanaro, Province: Caserta. I have her name, birth year, marriage info, looking for her immediate family members parents, siblings ect.. Not sure how to proceed in finding this information from within Italy. No luck through Ancestry. Any info advice would be appreciated.
Names: Maria Carolina Mancino b. 1872 in Montanaro..married Michele Crisci on 28 April 1892 (Michele is from Sparanise)
Arrived to U.S. 21 June 1911 with her children, settled in Rochester, Pa.
I believe she was a twin. Possible sister Lucia lived in Sparanise could of been Michele's sister??
Thank you in advance :)

The Mormon genealogical site has many more digitalized records of Italy than ancestry.com. Unfortunately, your town is not one of them. They also have film records that you can rent. Here are their URLs

- http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp and http://search.labs.familysearch.org/rec ... html#start

Other URLs that may be useful
- http://stevemorse.org/ellis2/ellisgold.html - It’s the Ellis Island site
- http://www.sersale.org/comunes.htm - lists dozens of Italian towns that you can click on to research ancestors.
- http://en.comuni-italiani.it/index.html - Gives the address of every Italian town in Italy to write to for ancestor information.
- http://web.tiscali.it/liviomoreno/FamilySearch.xls This spreadsheet is by province and town. Some of the towns have parish records online dating to the 1500s
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ Rootsweb Advanced Search. Multiple types of searches available. There are direct name searches plus 3 different “database” searches. The “Find a Database by Surname” is particularly interesting. It connects to lists of entire trees with that surname and gives a link to each tree by surname while also giving the number of people with that surname on the Tree.
- http://www.italiangen.org/ - NYC births, marriages, and deaths, etc. for both Italians and non-Italians.

Marty, the website I have been using to find and locate communes has a Montanaro but shows it in a different province - http://www.italyworldclub.com/italian-c ... montef.htm
You obviously have a better source that shows villages within communes or municipalities. Could you share what that source is?
